I am considering swapping my E320 estate for a GLC suv (17-19). I would be grateful to hear views about the GLC - good & bad - and is there anything I should look out for

I have the 250glc premium pack and had it for 4 years and it’s been no trouble in that time, its done 55,500 miles and is serviced once every 12 months.

Had mine (GLC43) since new in 2018 and very happy with it. Front tyre skipping is a well known issue for some but never really a problem for me. Got worse in cold weather last winter but new set of front tyres cured it (26k miles from new, still on original rears at 30,900).

Spacious, versatile, comfortable and (mine at least) very fast.

It will be much smaller than your E-estate in the back and in the front.
Crabbing in full lock as per above is a PITA, winter tyres and MB’s fix…

Mercedes GLC300 2021
I have recently purchased a 2021 GLC 300 with premium plus pack, prior to this I have owned E Class cars.

As I get older I need a car with easier entry/exit otherwise an SUV was not on my radar.

I have to say the car is a total revelation, I love it, it’s extremely quiet and very quick, the suspension rides on our U.K. roads beautifully, there is plenty of room for driver and passengers but the cargo area is smaller than the E Class cars I have owned other than the coupe.

This is the first Mercedes petrol car I have owned and I am averaging around 34 and 40+ on a run which is way short of my previous diesel cars.

My car has the 48 volt mild hybrid system which takes some getting used to as in eco or comfort mode there is or seems to be no engine braking and the car just glides along, put the car in sport or sport plus and you do get the engine braking.

I love the look of it, colour is Hyacinth red with saddle brown leather interior and 20 inch wheels.

I have only had the car around a month so I’m still wearing rose tinted glasses.

I recently took a neighbor to view a 2018 GLC 350 4 matic. premium plus in white. With cream interior . He bought it . It's very comfortable and pulls on par with my e350 coupe. Overall it's a very nice bus .

Not so - very tyre specific and varies between individual cars. Larger wheels seem worse. Over four years, rarely a problem with my 19in summers.

I make that four votes for and none against, so far, unless BC can back up his spurious allegations!

Edit
4 - 1 so far in favour

Driven at least 3 and all did it to a greater or lesser extent, once you notice it can be very annoying

Bc don't ussally make spurious claims must have read it somewhere. All things are subject to personal choice and experience.

Driven, not read…;)
I’m not a fan of SUV’s in general - although with ageing hips and terrible state of our roads I can see why drivers are attracted to them. Although almost all of the modern ones look exactly the same :(

To be fair, MB was making buyers sign waivers for a while that they accepted the crabbing.

Is the 4matic responsible for this crabbing then. Is it like the diff fighting itself ??

I have only occasionally noticed a small vibration when turning very slowly but it’s not something that stands out particularly.

My car has 20 inch wheels running on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres.

The car rides beautifully on our terrible U.K. roads so I’m willing to forgive the odd vibration when turning very slowly.

What re the smallest diameter tyres one can fit?

Will fitting them, and the taller sidewalls obviate the crabbing?

The higher sidewalls do help as they give more flex. Mine were standard with 19in, they were certainly 18in on lesser models and you may find some with 17in but I doubt it knowing the UK’s preference for big wheels.

No, it’s more about front wheel steering geometry. Other Mercedes can suffer from it, and not just 4Matic, but the GLC has gained a particular reputation.

Thanks everybody. I was due to try one this week but have picked up Covid!
All looks very positive but I will look out for the crabbing issue.
