C180K SE Coupe
Hi all,

I'm new to the site and have done a wee bit of reading on here as seriously considering buying a 2-3 year old C-Class Coupe....the only problem I'm having is knowing the difference between the specs?

The 2 models I've looked at are the C180K SE and the C180K Sport (both auto) which appear to be different versions, although I'm not sure...

I'd be grateful if anyone could advise with regards to the differences between the different specifications of C-Class Coupe as I can't find anywhere that details them?

Your help would be much appreciated :)

Thanks,

Gordon

Hello and Welcome Gordon,

Sport pack has slightly firmer suspension, slightly less comfortable seats etc. SE is luxury pack and would be more for comfort seekers.

Thanks Amo!

Does the Sport pack add anything? The ones I’ve seen advertised say AMG bodykit and paddle gear change on steering wheel – I’m not bothered about the paddles but I wonder if the AMG kit looks all that different?

If anyone has an old brochure showing the differences that’d be awesome!

Thanks :)

AMG kit is amazing however it isnt standard on any spec. AMG kit will always be extra at the point of purchase same with paddle shift gear change.

I am sure someone should be able to guide you to some pictures for AMG pack. Otherwise you can check out MB website to see the differences in AMG and standard kits.

Hi Gordon

I've got the Saloon - buy one of them they are so much nicer and look much more sophisticated in my opinion - don't be fooled into thinking the coupe is a sports car, the saloon and estate are just as capable - the C coupe is just a cheaper imitation for those that really want a CLK. (then again you could say the saloon is a cheaper alternative for those that want an E-class! - shot myself in the foot with that one!) he he

I was in your shoes a few years ago and seriously considered the coupe at first but quickly decided to go for the more grown up saloon when I looked into it - it has the 'look' of a Mercedes to me.

I understand where you're coming from - I think the model line up is quite confusing on the coupe and not like other Mercedes model line-ups, I believe it is something along the lines of:

Standard
Sport
Evo Panorama
SE
Evolution S
Evolution Panorama SE
Evo Panorama AMG SE

Panorama models have a panoramic glass roof.

Therefore I think you will find the SE is better specced than the Sport.

If you want AMG kit then I think only the Evo Panorama AMG SE has the bodykit bits on it although I could be wrong.

The best thing to do is research - use Parkers website etc to get you started.
The next best thing to do is go and look at some of the different models and you should quickly start to see the difference.

Afraid I only have the brochures for the C-class saloon - I threw the coupe ones out when I changed my mind.

Hi Micman,

Thanks for your help – at the moment I have my heart set on the coupe….I have a test drive arranged of one I like on Sunday so we’ll see how that goes! For all that I like the saloon I think I would enjoy the coupe more….I’m moving up from a V/X Astra so it’ll be closer in terms of size and I’d like one last sporty looking car before I hit 30 and more responsibility :)

Thanks to both you and amo for your help with regards to the spec….it can indeed be confusing!! My 2 options at the moment are a slightly higher mileage 07 SE versus a lower mileage 57 Sport with AMG bodykit…the SE is £1000 less though and that’s the one I’m testing on Sunday. The mileage worries me slightly tho….the SE has done 48,000 miles in 2 years?

Oh…and the sport has leather seats where the SE has the cloth….I think I prefer the leather?!?

Thanks again,

Gordon

Go for sport, otherwise you will always regret not going for leather and the AMG kit, AMG kit does make the car look nice.

If you want a Coupe, Why dont you go for nice CLK220 CDI? 2004 onward are all galvanised body and going very cheap at the moment.

Having said that, if you have your mind set on something then i guess noone will persuade you but I think CLK's look far nicer than a C coupe just as BMW have Compact dnt look as good as Coupe.

Good luck either way though

Some good advice given, go for a CLK, you will not regret it.

Russ,

how do you find your avantgarde? Is it better than elegance or Sport? I have W208 elegance and love the interior...

Oh! - that's taken me by surprise - reading your earlier posts it sounded like the Sport was the much better of the two you were looking at (even by your own description), lower mileage, better spec, leather interior, AMG kit and 6 months newer yet you bought the SE with the higher mileage and the cloth interior.

Interesting decision - I really really really hope you haven't just fallen into that trap of buying the first one you tried without comparing whats out there!!!!!!

Anyway - enjoy your new Mercedes and welcome to the fold

Don't fit a cosmetic finish like this. If the tail pipe is rusty, it may tell you a bit about the rest of the exhaust. When that goes, you would have nothing left to support the chrome exhaust tips!

Go for the root cause. In my experience the exhausts are robust and durable - your money would be better spent on a decent replacement which will serve you well.

Surely a genuine Mercedes exhaust on a 07 car should not be rusty already?

The sport had already gone but I had a drive in another sport on Sunday also (manual tho) and it was much of a muchness....a quick search of cars available via MB and autotrader didn't throw up anything better than the SE so I went for that :) Very happy with my decision and can't wait to collect on Friday!!

When I say rusty I don't actually mean rust....it's just tarnished and not "shiny"...the exhaust itself is fine - I'm just a poser and want my new car looking it's best :D

Thanks everyone :)

Yea, I like it...there were far more in silver but I far prefer it in the black :)

If you mean the fact that the exhaust tips look slightly golden I'm really hoping they're not as that wouldn't be a good look
