Hi Everyone,

I,looking to buy a C Class but an older one, I had a C200 before a avanteguard but it was completely duff and after spending 1K on it i just scrapped it, it was 2002 and I've been told that there was a facelift after this which sorted many of the problems the older version had,

I have been looking at this one and wanted to know thoughts

Thanks in advance

Ahh so this one still has drive chain? Probably best avoiding from what I've heard then, I thought the 2005 models didn't,

MOT history appears good though mileages for the years 2011 till 2016 are very low per annum!

They don't have issues and not all will have problems, it is something to be wary of

It's a timing chain not a drive chain... or else it would be REALLY rattly!!!

Are you buying a car or motorbike? Mercedes engines mostly have timing chains rather than belts and these are generally long lasting and maintenance free. Motorcycles have drive chains to save on weight and because they are more efficient.

Hi guys excuse my ignorance. I'm buying a car haha yes and I meant timing chain. So if it has yet to develop a chain related issue, if it did what is the cost? As I was told this alone usually renders the car worthless.

I had I 2001 CLK200 which I am told was the earlier engine. My wife had a 2004 SLK200K did 90K miles no problems, now on a 2010 SLK200K 42K miles no problems.

It depends how the chain goes and what else it takes with it.
If it jumps teeth that can destroy the engine.
If it just gets noisy then it's a different matter.
The giveaway in both cases is that it makes a racket on first start of the day.

Some BMWs have a similar problem.
