Hello,

I've just joined the site today in hope of getting some advice before purchasing my first Mercedes-Benz SL 280.

The car itself is a year 2000 model with 51,000 miles on the clock.

It is in spotless condition inside and out.

What should I be looking for apart from looks to see how well the car is?

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum, not a lot to say on that model, its almost at the end of the run and in general very few faults. Just make sure that the roof goes up and down along with the roll bar, the windows drop a touch when opening and closing the doors, Nice cars, make sure you get the draught screen 3 keys and all of the books

Thanks television - what are the draught screen 3 keys?

Sorry its my grammer, the car comes with 3 keys, 2 with remotes and one special, also make sure that the draught screen is in the boot

What concerns should I have if not all 3 keys are available?

I will be viewing the car this coming week so this advice is coming in useful.

What servicing might be required at 51,000 miles if the car has not recently been serviced?

I've also read that there can be potential problems with the automatic gearbox and to look for rust around the base of the hood and check that the air-con systems work - these appear to be the most costly.

The keys are £150 each and the special keys are not available, that is not that important

Its rust on the bottom of the hard top, no trouble with the air con on these.

The box is a standard 722.6 and does not give many problems, well no more than any other car

Any ideas what the servicing costs are for this model assuming nothing major needs work?

Can I get information on the service intervals for Mercedes?
