Hello folks,
l’ve always wanted a 60’s-70’s classic Mercedes. I (years ago) nearly got the car I really wanted, a Pagoda. However, instead of buying this I bought an almost new Audi S4 (B6). Wrong decision. Of course now the Pagoda is way out of my price range but would like a 70’s 280C or CE. From what I can see, very rare in RHD but affordable? May I ask what I should be looking to pay for a nice one, original and restored condition. Also, are spares readily available still from Mercedes or is that another hobby to run along side owning the car? Last one, when viewing these cars should I be looking anywhere in particular for potential trouble that may be lurking under the bonnet or elsewhere. Thanks in advance for any wisdom and advice.

Hello and welcome

Rust is the biggest issue - that and affordability…

Thanks for the welcome. Are there any particular areas that are well known for rotting away, most cars do?

They will rust absolutely everywhere. Floor plans, inner arches, boot floor, and that's just the stuff you can see. But if those bits are ok, at least you have a solid base if any more is found later.

That’s true. They are beautiful cars when done right. Just hope I can find one before they appreciate in value any further. Thanks.

Someone on the other forum has just bought an early 70's model, which has proved to be a very tarted up wreck. Be very careful about choosing an older model which as people have said are often riddled with rust. Now that these are becoming a good few quid, some will have a quick cheap makeover to be punted on to the unwary.

Hi, that‘s great advice and a very note worthy word of caution. Do you have a link to the thread from the poor guy so I can hopefully learn more from his experience? Thanks.
