Hi team!

Now that I have finally bitten the bullet and picked up a Clio 172 Cup, I now have 3 engines to manage the oil in, with the Clio being track biased.

Turns out i'm on 5W-40 in all.. so I am thinking about buying a 20ltr drum of Millers Trident.

Has anybody used this for MB - Seems I cannot find a bad word said about it and it seems well priced at about 4 or 5 quid per litre, which is hella cheaper than the Castrol Edge and Petronas that I used last two times.

Is @Wighty our resident oil baron here..? Was it he who I read about changing oil verrrrry frequently. Where do you buy it buddy? :)

EDIT: I'm looking at this Millers Oils TRIDENT 5W-40 Fully Synthetic. Delivered for £4.85/litre .. That seems pretty ace to me.

You can buy the MB stuff from most dealers for +/- £3/L, just check the bay and most dealers will match.

Interesting... I didn't realise that. That being said, I would need to it be compatible with the Renault also. I will have a look, thanks.

Wow, I had forgotten that those "lube cubes" were such good value. Unsurprisingly no markings about Renault or other brand specs.. so I need to figure it out. At that kind of money I could buy a set of each anyway.

I assume oil doesn't go off...as long as it's stored appropriately.

There was a discussion a couple of weeks ago that you may be able to pick up the above oil at an MB dealers for £50 (avoids the extra postage cost ?) ...this hasn’t been confirmed yet though , you could enquire ?:D

Interesting... While it says "free p&p" I am assuming the debate was based on the assumption that the postage was built into the actual listed price..

I can try my local dealer....but it's ****** Chelsea. I am not a fan and they love to charge.

Might be worth a phone call to parts though , depends how much it costs you to drive there and pick it up to save £12?

I would buy the genuine MB stuff for the mercs and get whatever the Renault needs separately

I had a Clio 182 Trophy, hilarious car to drive, like a rollerskate, went round roundabouts on 3 wheels

MB specs aren't all that and if you're going to fun thrash a little Clio then you need a better spec than the decades old Reno spec at the time .

I cannot tell you how excited I am to get it on track...it's all spec'd and ready to go.

Inclined to agree on your suggestion too. I'll get the cubes of MB for MB's then something a bit more track oriented for the Clio.

The MBs will take the most oil, and the MB oil turns out a lot cheaper, so I can spend that extra on the Clio and hopefully keep it in good stead.

Yessss... I would have thought that alright. But there is very little online about Renault oils, Renault themselves don't seem to have much info.

I bought 10 litres of the Merc 229.51 oil off e bay, £40 delivered, works out at £4 a litre.
I do not have anywhere to store a 20 litre one now.

If you're going to really thrash and who wouldn't the Clio , I'd go for a racing Ester marketed oil .

Hmm.. I shall see. It's rather expensive. Now don't get me wrong.. i'm all for not skimping. I would rather get cheaper oil and change far more frequently, say after every 3rd outing or something.

Have a look at Opie Oils website

Yeap, epic. That's where i'll likely order from. Is that where you built your pipeline to? :D
