My 1997 C Class 1.8 estate. The ABS dashbd warning light has come on and at the same time the Cruise Control went inoperative. I suspect the 2 are related as I googled another person with the same problem (but sadly I couldn't find the resolution).

Can anyone help?

I don't have any manuals, so I'm not sure if there is something as simple as a common fuse or relay?

Thank you. Phil

The battery did go flat around this time and needed to be jumped. My partner was using it and she isn't sure if the problem co-incided with the flat battery.

According to my manual if the voltage drops below 10v this will trigger the warning light for ABS amongst other things. Someone else here may have a better idea but I would suggest getting it on a STAR diagnostic machine to read out any fault codes. Also jump starting could have caused a voltage surge which may have damaged one or other of the circuit boards.

I live near Turriff in Aberdeenshire.

ABS lights

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a wheel speed sensor for the ABS and if the sensor has a fault it will take out the cruise as well as put on a few lights on the dash as the systems work hand in glove.

There may well be an other reason and someone else will possibly have some more info and better ideas.

Mike

Mike, thank you.
On my Rover you can measure which ABS sensor has gone bad, do you know if that's possible on a C-180 or do you need a garage to read the diagnostics? If I could find which, I'd be happy to change it myself and save the cost of a garage.

Has anyone a circuit diagram of this area to help?

The ABS light comes on as soon as the car is started.

Hi,
I would intially be looking at the OVP relay (if fitted, but should have as my 97 c class has it), would be just infront of the windscreen on the passenger side under the black plastic cover, it is the white relay with either 1 or 2 fuses in the top of it, failling that it would be a diagnostic check.
FYI.
Your ABS system should only have three wheel sensors, one each for the front wheels, and only one for the rear, which is in the diff unit, and comes through and plugs into the car loom in the boot under the large plastic cover immediatly behind thwe rear seat.
Hope this is some help to you.
