Most likely your fan thermoswitch is faulty.
Ensure your ignition is switched off, then remove the plastic cover at the front of the cambox on your engine(top front),it just pulls of but be careful not to crack it, also be very careful working near your spinning fan. Under the cover you will see a row of electrical sensors, unplug each in turn until your fan stops.
You can leave it unplugged until you obtain a replacement a.s.a.p. but keep an eye on your temperature gauge, if it gets above 100c turn your heater on full ,though at this time of year unless you are stationary for a long period it should not be a problem.

I do not know is in the box, in the first place it must be dried out, along with the harness at the box end. Open it up and come back with whats in it.

Re the harness,mb say that it is best to replace and / or tape it up with a waterproof amalgamating tape.

come back when you opened it.

Why dont you unplug it and stick on a radiator or somewhere warm for a while and see if it is ok when it is dry, if this is the case then you only have to waterfroof it.

In your tittle is the XJ for Jag XJ.

Just thought I would mention as I have had over 30 of them, including the first Daimler Sov that was the show piece at Earls Court, the engine was painted white, chassis red and every other component a different colour,it was on the revolving turntable, the reg number was SOV28H.

regards Malcolm

Hi Malcolm. I took the box off and after cleaning found four screws two of which would not move, hammer and punch and the cover is off, the corners of the cover plate are now missing, I can see where the water was getting in and will try to seal the whole thing up with silicon, will let you know how I get on.
This is perhaps not the best place to admit it, but are Jaguars not the best cars in the world?(before Ford took over I must add)I think so anyway.

Hi Malcolm I dried out the box sealed it and put it back but no luck, the damage had been done,it looks like a new one.Do you know anything about altinators? The red light started to come on the battery is now flat, all the connections and the belt are ok,could it be the brushes or do I need a new alternator?
Cheers Nick
