I have a 1996 c180 auto with 116k miles on the clock.Can anyone tell what the best grade of oil is for this car and also what the plug gap should be?.The car is
not greedy on oil and uses very little.

SAE 10W/40 is the recommended grade and you should use a good quality fully synthetic engine oil; spark plug gap is 0.8mm.
