C 200

This is a C 200 1994 . Petrol.

The problem is that when revved past 4500 the engine Splutters, backfires. misses . Up to that level its fine.
What might be causing this and how can it be repaired.

I would check the fuel filter and fuel pump first

Had a similar problem with my C230K it turned out to be a plug cap/lead but coil packs are quite common fault.
If it was mine i would be looking at possibly the OVP relay first, i maybe wrong but when playing up gives similar symptons that you described.
If i,m wrong some one will correct me i,m sure.

If the car is stationary, you can't rev it more that 4500rpm safety cut out.
Rev limiter.

Where is the OVP located. What kind of tests can be done to check if this is the problem .
