C Class Battery Light

The battery indicator light comes on when the car is switched on and stays on until I switch it off. can anybody help me please. I'm not brilliant with mechanics but can follow simple instructions.

this is down to 1 of 2 problems. either a fault in the alternator somewhere or a break in the wir that sends signals to the light to switch it off. im afraid i cant be more helpful at this stage as i dont have any wiring diagams etc to consult for wiring colours. ive got mostly ford experience, and the wire for the warning light is a thin blue one! no sure if that helps?

first try testing the altenator. put a multimeter across the battery terminals. start the engine and switch on as many electrical drains possible (heaters, heated screens, lights etc.) next gently raise the engine speed. with everything on, you should get a reading of between 12 and 14.5 volts. if you do, alternator is fine. any less, its faulty.
