Hi to you all out there.
Well as you have probably gathered by now I have very recently acquired a new (to me) MB interest.
This is in the form of a 2006/55 plate C Class C220 CDI Auto Estate in Iridium Silver with a Black Nappa Interior and the Aluminium trim.

One of the two keys (Ref :-- DAS 3) DSCF0672.JPG DSCF0673.JPG will not unlock or lock the car by means of the remote functions BUT it will start the car. The two keys are of the ALL Black Plastic type as shown in the attached images.

I have inserted two brand new Duracell batteries but still no electrical functions working.
I understand that the emergency key will allow access into the car and then I can start it with the body of the key but that is an unnecessary faff - I am not a tight arse Scouser but COME-ON £240.00+ is just not on for a replacement key.

Is this 'Rip-off Germany's way at a quiet revenge against our not so quiet Rip-Off Britain ?

Are there any known technicians out there that that can repair/replace components within the key ?

On the circuit board inside the key the inductor coil may well have come adrift from the board.

If you’re handy with a soldering iron you could have a go at soldering it back on.

Hi Bc. That was a skill that my late father did not inherit me with and my youngest brother who did is sadly no longer with us.

The leading question is -- how do you get into the key,the body does not split for access other than removing the slide-out for the replacement of the batteries ?

Is it possible that my Computer Boffin could undertake such a delicate operation ?

Plenty of videos on YouTube on taking them apart.

Thanks Bc. Now I need to search for a short video on the most likely culprit (the inductor coil) for a solder repair so that I can pay a visit to my PC repair man.

Search for posts by Television, either on this forum or on T'other side (https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/) if you're also on that forum. I'm pretty sure Malcolm posted a "how to" about these keys, and he was very knowledgeable about such things - and is sadly missed. Maybe @LostKiwi can assist as I believe he still has access to much of Malcolm's files.

At the top of this page you'll see "Search Forums", click on that. Enter your keywords, then put Television (that was Malcolm's username on here and t'other side) in the "Search for posts by member" box. Malcolm was a prolific poster so it may take you a while looking through!
