C Class Door Mirror Replacement

Some kind soul has smashed the door mirror glass on my 1997 C180, so two questions:

1. Is there anywhere selling just the mirror glass for a more reasonable price that the £47 demanded by MB?

2. How is it fitted? I'm guessing there's a knack... Is it better to just let Autoglass do it on my insurance (£50 excess, no loss of NCB)?

Heated Mirror glasses are available from German,swedish and french car parts here is the web site . They retail at £27.50 + vat.
There are loads of branches throughout the country.
