C class factories - left hand drive

hi folks,
forgive me if this question is already answered. i´m using my mobile phone to get online at the last minute here and nowhere near proper internet, hence I've not really done a full search. in the morning i will look at a C220 cdi from the year 2000. I´ve read earlie on Honest John website that there were some quality niggles on South Africa mfg´d car between 2000 and 2001 Would anyone know if Z.A. built left hand drives as well as r.h. drives or would l.h. drives all have been built in Germany (Bremen). i now live in Austria, hence the prefetence for left hand drive.

Cannot say for certain Jack, but having taken delivery of a new C Class RHD in 2001, I was interested in this South African build story at that time. I'm fairly sure I read that RHD production only was carried out in SA, simply because that market is RHD and their assembly plant was already assembling there for the South African market.
My car was SA built but I had next to no problems, covering 60,000 miles in 4 years. Paint finish was a little suspect in key areas but that's about it. Obviously watch for rust and paintwork problems on your car.

hi David, much appreciate your reply. indeed my car appears to be from a German factory and my dealer did go to some length to confirm his self confessed belief.

Another source of mine shares your answer also.

It´s not a show stopper anyhow as i went through the car in real detail and it´s very clean inside and out. the history is excellent and to cut a long story short, i´ve bought it. jack here is delighted. cheers for the time to help me.
