As above, a relative has a 2009 c class which during mot prep it was noticed that the rear subframe was broken. Garage would not let her drive the car. Contacted main Mercedes dealer who requested the car be brought to them for examination , giving every impression they would repair same free of charge including the £130 fee for checking but not the £95 transporter cost. They rang the next day and confirmed the fault, but then went through all the usual guff about the age of the car and how they were not really responsible. Ended up stating they would contact Mercedes themselves for an answer and get back to her, coupled with a veiled warning they would need a service history.

I remember this being a topic before at some stage so could anyone who has suffered the same problem let me know how they got on please. The garage who noticed the fault stated that it was well known that some cars had this possible defect for years but no recall was ever put in place.

Many thanks.

Many thanks Blobcat.

Sister in law has just rang me to say that she has had a second call from the dealership to apologise and confirm that they will carry out the repair and the part is ordered from Germany and on its way. I would love to have been a fly on the wall during whatever conversation took place.

Happy days. Back to the sunshine and Corona. (The ice cold beer that is).

Had to wait for the new sub frame part to arrive from Germany but it's all done now. They even replaced the suspension arms as well with no charge to my surprise. Sister in law says it's like driving a new car. Result!

Hi All, Further to my last post MB Inchcape Liverpool having renewed the rear sub frame on my c180 , I asked for a receipt or letter of conformation of the work carried out I was told it was not required because the job was done free of charge, has anyone else been told this?....any thoughts would appreciated Many Thanks.

They are probably too embarrassed to let you see what it would have cost had you actually been paying. I know that my sister in laws bill would have been thousands when you take into account the mind boggling hourly labour rate, cost of the subframe, suspension arms and a few other bits as i have now discovered were fitted plus the vat. It would be entering heart attack country. Had it been an insurance claim they would have written it off.

Incidentally. The additional work should not have been carried out. A directive was issued to replace the subframe only. Anything else required must be paid for. Thankfully everything fitted and car on its way home when this was discovered. Another (unusual) result.
