Hi there,

Anyone know how to tighten up the steering bolts on the 98 C Class as it states in the service book? The steering still feels good, but at 176,000 miles on the clock and 40,000 since it had a dealer service, I just wondered if it needed doing. I've been servicing the car myself for the last 18 months and it's the easiest car I've worked on for years. Still getting 42 - 45 mpg from every tank.

Any suggestions welcome, apart from take it to the dealer.

Thanks.

Willie

Hi Wil, not quite sure of your request other than going over all the nuts and bolts making sure that they are tight. If you have no knocks or noises, I doubt if anything is wrong

The bolts refred to are the main steering box bolts, which you acces through the drives wheel arch, cant remmemmber the torque but as malcolm says with no problems, just but a spanner on them and make sure there not loose.

Thanks guys, The steering feels good. no knocks or noises. I do get a fair bit of road noise, but I reckon that is the rear roll bar bushes which are a bit worn.

Best regards,

Willie
