I have recently puchased a 'C' Class C220CDI Coupe which I intend to use occasionally to pull a 1220kgs caravan.The car weighs in at 1505kgs and I was assured before purchase that the manufacturers towing limit was 1500kgs.After picking the car up after a 4 month wait I was surprised to find that the owners manual stated a 1500kgs limit for the petrol C180,C200k and C230K and only 1200kgs for the C220CDI.On contacting the dealership they checked the 'C' Class saloon and estate towing limits which were found to be 1500kgs for petrol and diesel versions.
Further to this the Czeck manual for the Coupe states 1500kgs for all variants and the German version states 1200kgs for the C180 and C220CDI and 1500kgs for the C200k and C230K.I am now as confused as Mercedes.My dealer has requested a confirmation from Daimler/Chrysler UK.Has anybody had similar experiences.I purchased the car with a factory fitted detachable tow bar and electrics and have since found on examination of the 13 pin socket that 3 pins are missing,2 of which allow caravan battery charging.I understand that a fully specified socket is available as an extra at about £70 plus fitting.I like the car but am not impressed by the pricing or the organisation.
