HI hope someone can shed some light on the problem I am having with the brakes on my C- class 2ltr auto Elegance. a couple of weeks ago I reversed the car out of the garage and noticed that the BAS-ESP-ABS lights were still on when the car was running. Done a bit of research on this forum and hoped that it was the problem with the brake light switch, fitted a new one but no luck. My cruse control and speed limiter still work, and to some extent the ABS still works but only at the last part of the braking process, so I checked the rear pads and found that both rear inner brake pads had come away from the backing plate so I fitted a new set, and the ones that came out were genuine Merc parts and definitely did not have brake sensors in them. Fitted a new set of Lockheed's and the rear disc's are in very good condition, went together no problem but the light's are still on on the dash until I crank the engine into life. So it looks like a fault with one of the wheel /ABS sensors, unless someone knows better? not looking forward to going to the dealership to get it diagnosed. Anyone have any suggestions.

Just reading the bit where you say that the lights are on until you crank the engine,, if they go out ABS etc then all is fine

The lights go on before you start the engine to let you know they are on and working and when you start the car the lights should go out then all is fine . IF THEY STAY ON you have a problem and you will need to do some more checking

Most likely to be a wheel speed sensor failed. Codes will need to read to identify the faulty one, then a quick job to replace it.

You never mentioned about checking the front pads, where there will be sensors
