C w202 250TD - Air In Fuel system

thanks, have put a non return valve in at tank just temporary fix, no different, pipe to pre filter drains instantly. couple bubbles in pipe from pre filter then 10 -15 mins later completely drains as if tap was opened. is there any sealant for diesel? where is my diesel going??? if not draining back to tank?? it does seem to use more fuel when it does this but cant find leak. still looking for strainer, open new thread.

If the plenum (think I have spelt that correctly) chamber is blocked in the tank itself, this will then create it's own vacuum giving rise to the symptoms you describe.

Ideally get the tank out for a full inspection, failing this, swap the delivery fuel line with the return. This is only a test as the pipes are different diameters which could cause other unforeseen issues.

JOB DONE!! (I think. Time will tell) It was that ****** Stop valve/Stop solenoid/ Yorkshire T/Thingabybob/Watchacallit on the side of the pump. Thanks to everyone who gave advice and thanks Yorkshire1 for the unit you sent me.
I would have posted earlier but I took the chance of running down to London for a few days to see my daughter. Went like a dream. No problems starting regardless of how long I left it standing.
I've given up the idea of putting my head in the oven and the Tyne will have to wait a while longer for its new man made reef. Even my wife sighed with relief. My idea of buying her a 50cc moped so that she could go shopping, has been put on hold, so she has stopped the divorce proceedings.

Im glad sanity has been restored, a good feeling when you finally get to the bottom of a problem, surprising how soon you forget all about the many hours of teeth gnashing/hair pulling/wallet emptying etc lets hope theres many a trouble free mile ahead of you

i know im about 7 years late but having similar problem and will try the shut off thingy but was also wondering about the fuel tank venturi leveling or transfer system in the saddle tank on c250td mines obviously not working properly because it says quarter of tank when its empty could this not working venturi get air from empty part of tank and allow it to travel up return line to filter housing and into system when car is shut off cheers
