Hi All,
Firstly I would like to say I'm newly registered, although I have been on this site reading many times.
In the last week ,my car has started doing a really odd thing (have had it a year and a half now), when I brake and stop ,the car seems to jerk or kickback, and also occcasionally when I accelarate from standing, it does the same thing. Sometimes it is a double jerk. It only does this when it is warm, when I start the car from cold it is fine, and it seems to jerk when it gets to just above 80 C.
My husband thinks it is the automatic gearbox and if he is right will probably cost us a lot of money.Any ideas, and also any recomendations for a mercedes mechanic in East Herts/ North London area.
Many thanks for your help.
Maria

Sounds very much like a gearbox problem. Get the ATF level checked first. I suspect maybe an elecrtical plate fault/speed sensor but cant be sure.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Sounds like the gearbox. Mine did a very similar thing before I discovered the recent leak. Braking downhill from say 70mph, the car would feel like someone was stabbing the brakes on the odd ocassion.

Thanks so far for the suggestions ,I have booked it in next week for a service B with an independant mechanic, and will ask him to check the ATF.I also read somewhere here that it could be the sensor plate, so will get him to look at that.
Just a bit more info, it has done 63K and is a petrol car without the Kompressor.
Today it was really bad from cold ,so my theory that it was a problem only when the car was warm has gone out of the window! It also is only jerky when changing up or down between 1st and 2nd gear.
Parrot of Doom,I'll do a search about your leak.

Thanks to you both, I know N13 very well, and will look them up.I'lll let the service mechanic have a look first, who btw, has said he charges £100 including VAT for a Service B.??
He has been recomended by a friend who has been taking his C class for services to him for a while and is very happy. He is not a MB specialist, so may not be able to deal with the gear problem.
