have recently aquired an s-reg c180 saloon.  unfortunately the alarm has a mind of its own and goes of every now and again without reason.  i have a feeling the internal movement sensors are too sensitive but dont know if this can be adjusted or if they can be turned off permenently.  i always ensure the air vents are closed and dont think there are any spiders setting th alarm off.  any thoughts would be much appreciated. thanks.

c180 alarm problems

Hi Ed,

there have certainly been a few problems with the alarms on C Class's.  If you do a search on this forum you'll probably find quite a few posts on the subject.

I've been down this route myself and eventually had the sensors, central locking pump and nearside rear window (??) swapped by the dealer....all under warranty I might add.

The interior sensors are fairly sensitive and can be set off by small insects (spiders) etc.  Best thing to do is to take the car to a stealership and get them to read the codes registered when the alarm was triggered.   They should then be able to pin-point the problem.

c180 alarm problems

I've had a couple of alarm problems; the first was self-induced, but the second I traced to moisture in the  4-way plug local to the siren. Be warned, however, the pins are very thin and mine were also corroded.
I just cut the plug and socket out and put crimp through connectors in.
A cheap solution; but it may not help you.

I have had about three false alarms since May, each time I found a tiny spider had made a web near the interior sensor and was setting it off.

Was'nt the same spider as I get rid of it each time!

Try disabling the interior sensors for a while using the switch on the dash. This may help to diagnose if it is the interior sensors.

If a  large spider takes up residence in the interior & survives. The acidic action of its waste/droppings can be quite remarkable & damaging to the trim.
A spraycan of bug killer used regularly, I have found to be effective to keep them at bay.

There are upgraded alarm interior sensors for the c-class. Visit your dealer and ask them to check yours.

alarm false

Modified sensors are avialable
spider's are also likly

if you take the car to MB dealer he can ask the PSE pump what has been setting alarm off and advise on action

Alarm sirens are also quite common
