c180 cold running probs

My 97 c180 petrol auto bangs in the intake when starting and does not respond to throttle untill warm, I have cleaned the t/body and maf , but will the ecu need clearing ? no lights on dash. The Evapouratve control canister has never been changed 100k, MB say say they never do these?
