Guys,

Need some advice.

My car has an issue with fast idle when warm - typically it will sit around 1200 - 1600 rpm if left alone. In order to prevent me sounding like a boy racer, I can reduce the idle by holding the car on the brake and letting the clutch out slowly to reduce the REVs. Once reduced they generally stay low.

Friend put his reader OBD reader onto the car and it reported P0410 Secondary Air Injection System.

I have taken the car to a merc garage for further diagnoses and they advise that its the vacuum pipes at the rear of the supercharger that have perished. Part numbers 01030471, 01030252 and 01020242 (presume any one of these 3).

They have quoted me £1082.46 for this work as apparently the supercharger needs to be removed to access the pipes.

Has anyone had similar or can advise if this is the case.

Many thanks

Andy.

Its the kind of work I would always give to an Indy.

Where are you located?
Why not find a respected Indy ?
I am Sure someone here can recommend a good one near you.
I Bet it would be less than half that cost.

The good news is its running so you can take it to an Indy, even if they are 50 miles away.
Well I would drive 50 miles to save £500

The vaccumm pipes will cost less than a fiver. Should be able to fit them with out taking the car apart.

Not according to Merc. Guess its ok if you know what you are doing. Merc quoted £24 for 4 pipes.

Guess there are no Indy's down in Devon.

There will be but likely less well known to us.
Steve at Avantgarde isn't a million miles away (Bristol) and would be worth the trip to know its been done right and that the diagnosis was correct before they started.

has no one ever experienced this issue? Is it really labour intensive for the garage to charge so much?

I have also had good reports of Coverdale (from a Sprinter driver though)

They're up near Decoy Park not far from Penn Inn assuming you're in South Devon
