Small hair line cracks or webbing showing.

if it snaps whilst driving will it damage the engine?

not likely, however if its hot outside and you continue to drive then yes, it will not be able to cool the engine (via the radiator) and your alternator won't charge the battery, so not a good idea.

why are you worried about it anyway ?

cos just been looking through the service histroy and it had one at kwik fit and they knocked the fan belt and rear flex hoses but then it passed an mot two months later????????????
