My 1996 C180 (63K) refuses to idle. Apart from the lack of idle, the engine runs fine.
The idle problem occurred immediately following a change of battery (brought on by the first autumn chill!). The battery was out of the car for over an hour, whilst a beeping sound eminated from the left hand side of the engine compartment near the firewall.
I have tried WD40 on the throttle linkage area and the microswitch (after searching this forum). The idle came back briefly, then failed.
My question is:
How should I proceed with this problem. Should a diagnostic on the engine management system be the first step?
Thanks in advance.
