I have a C180 and the rev-counter; Speedo, clock and petrol gauge suddenly stopped working. I have checked the fuses and have taken out the binnacle; some of the lamps were out so I have replaced them. The instruments now light up but the problem still remains. The temperature gauge still works.

Has anyone got a wiring diagram that they can e-mail to me?

Sounds like the binnacle has packed up to me. One guage offline would suggest a sender but more than one and I am thinking the circuitry on the binnacle. There are people who will test it for you or they pop up on ebay. Find a friendly indie and they may be prepared to swap one over from another car to prove it.

You should be ok on a used one. The cluster in the W202 was pretty reliable so there isn't a great demand for them when they do come up, plus one out of a scrapper should be fine. Try the usual suspects, Mercman etc.
Just think yourself lucky you don't have a 2000 E or clk, they are notorious and like rocking horse stuff to get hold of.

The 190 and W124 where the last to use cables.

All your comments are much appreciated.
Again many thanks

You should have on terminal 30 of instrument cluster 11-14volt controled by fuse3 and 11-14volt on terminal 15 controled by fuse 15

There is a fusablestrip inside, do not know what it does.

Many thanks for the advise, I have read that you should always disconnect the battery before removing the instrument panel, is this correct?
Is the fusible strip inside the panel it’s self?
And BIG X what is the EPC ‘electronic printed circuit’?
Anyone with any other comments please join in as I could do with as much help as possible.

The primary reason for disconnecting the battery is to stop the SRS tripping as this requires the warning light to be in circuit and it requires a computer to be plugged in to reset it. However, if you're going to power up the car to test the plugs anyway, its rather academic.

Yes the fusable link is inside on one of the PCB's, Have you tested the voltages going in to pins 15 and 30

Instrument Panel

I have not tested the voltage yet. I will do at the weekend. I was going to remove the circuit board from the panel and just plug that in. That way I could access the pins to test the voltage, and wont have to get the SRS reset. It will probably be worth getting someone to plug it in to see if there are any other problems.
Regards
Mat

fuses

I have checked the fuses in the boot and the fuses under the bonnet. Do you know of any other fuses, other than in these two locations.
