Hi all, I'm new here *takes a bow in respect*:D

Picking up a new (to me ) C180 classic 04/05 on Friday. I'm getting it cheap (er) of a mate as some work needs doing (and I'm quite good at that) .

Have a 'few' questions but first off may I ask if anyone knows or is familiar with panels and fitting them. I would like to know if the model 'classic' uses any of the same panels as the model 'elegance' or vice versa. :?:

Hello and welcome,,all panels are the same, and only some badges and trims different. All of the front wings and bumpers are removable, the rest is all welded

S class
Some of the different models have different bumpers, so if replacing a bumper make sure you have a complete bumper as the grill panel, spot lamps etc wont fit..

Nice one, cheers guys.
I had a feeling and hoped as much. Should make life a lot sweeter to sort it. Though don't know yet what other fiddly bits might need replacing further in.
Is there a more technical section here anywhere (I have looked a bit) to save keep asking you guys about the more more mundane stuff. Like tolerances, weld / cut points etc.

I know a wing is defo needed and possibly bumper / bonnet, but hope to christ any crumple zones haven't crumpled. Perhaps they are the crumple bits on Merc's ;)

cheers for the link.
Doesnt work straight away, had to go to main and then select model. All looks greek to me, but stuck on which model to select. I've noticed this before, says 'C' class Which I know is a 180 se classic, but then why all the w's listedsuch as w210 w169 and so on. but not mine. Is the c180 named, also known as something else?:?:

Cars fall into groups, the 202 was the first of the mid range cars, this was followed by the 203, and the new version is the 204.

On the car that yoiu have bought,it has a VIN number,on the V5 and bottom of screen passenger side of wind screen.

The next 3 numbers after the 203 tell you what the car is ,re engine and or if estate.

That link opens for me on the car that I believe that you have a C203735

Nah, def wont open. Pink page, bit of russion at the top, and what looks like broken image icon. Thats in firefox. Had a quick look for the number you mentioned in the list from the main page, and more but no use. Perhaps explorer will do better.
Anyhow thanks for the explanation, very helpful. I thought the w2's were different models entirely. I'll know what others are talking about now:)

I'll try again tomorrow.

Thank you, does that mean I look for parts for a '203'.
I've also ordered a disk info set off ebay which should be handy.

Also took delivery today. What a state. Stripped most of the bad bits already but I think I'll be here for a while. The guy who sold it to me, who I know to be a bit of a dealer said it didnt need that much doing. Actually it doesnt, Very little body / chassis damage. Most of it is hard front. So from the block forward - couple of pullys, hoses rad, condensing unit, cast ally cross member, all the little tinny bracket bits, Lights, bumper + mount, bonnet, and wing.

Quite a shopping list, though I dont think I will popping in to mr merc for that little lot.

Do people offer scrapped cars here for sale cheap, with bits that would do for a C180 (203) ?
