This should be just a wheel bearing. very hard to detect by hand, you can jack the car and by rotating the wheels sometimes feel the slight roughness or the balls, by opening the windows its more easy to pinpoint.

Does this dissapear when you turn the radio up?;)
Just jesting.
I agree with TV. Wheel bearings are notoriously difficult to detect in the early stages. Snap on sell an electronic stethoscope for this purpose. Just keep an eye on it (or should I say ear) and see if it gets worse.

Just in case the radio goes wrong.

jack car remove roadwheel. Unbolt brake calliper and surport or tie it up so that the hose is not strained. Remove dust center cap. remove clip or pin holding the center nut or clamp,if clamp loosen. Unscrew nut and the hub will slide off. Remove the faulty bearing and wash center of hub out.
Re fit.
If the bearing is tight,do not hit it. simply place the bearing in the freezer for a couple of hours and warm the hub, the bearing will then fall into place. (Note that the magnetic side must face inwards otherwise no ABS) refit to the hub carrier spindle. Replace nut or clamp and tighten till the hub cannot be turned, then back off so that the hub turns freely, tighten clamp and fit clip or pin (if pin renew) pack the hub dust cap with high temp grease and tap on. Re fit brake calliper using new bolts (saftey issue). re fit road wheel.

Drive down the road with the radio off to enjoy the silence that an MB can offer.

Apart from the hub cap do the actual bearings need packing with grease or any additional lube?
