Good day ,

I've been recently getting ESP and Speedtronic error messages on the dash of my 2006 C180 K W203.046 , saying that ESP and Speedtronic not available.

Hooked the car up for diagnosis and codes were C1172 (Steering angle sensor internal fault) , and C1707 (Check BAS/ESP module) - last error has been cleared and did not show up after 5 minutes when I checked again.

On monitoring live data on the diag computer , it seems all 4 wheel speed sensors are working . Battery and alternator are also in good health. No error codes showed up for the YAW sensor , and wheels/steering look reasonably aligned correctly to the naked eye.

Calibrating the SAS did not work (lock-to-lock 5 times , or left lock-right lock-center and wait) did not work either. SAS reading showing up as a frozen 0 degrees on the diag computer.

I think I need a new SAS . Problem is I can't find correct part number , there are a dozen possible ones and I need to order this online . Can somebody help me identify the part number I need ? Car details are :

2006 C180K W203.046 , M271.946 engine , VIN WDB2030461A953287 .

Many thanks.

I get it to be:
Contact spiral with steering angle sensor
Part No. A169 464 0818 (Ident end No. 185)

If someone else could confirm this then you should be good to go.

Thanks lyserman for the answer ! . I've gotten a number for the SAS from an MB dealer today , they told me they carry "A169 464 15 18" and it fits the car , they say this is the latest version of the sensor. I've located several cheap ones online with "A169 464 XX 18" , with XX being other numbers (08 , 03 ,11, 12). Are these older versions of the same things ? would they fit and work properly ? Thanks.

According to the current EPC, 03 was the original part number for your car. This was replaced by 06 and then by 08.
So the 08 would appear to be the latest version.
