C180 Window Failure

My 2002 C180 Estate has just developed a fault with the passenger window.
It won't open at all with either the passenger switch or the driver's pad. There is a tiny click when either of these switches are depressed but no movement whatsoever.
Is this likely to be a mechanical fault or the controller?

The battery was replaced about 6 months ago and no other work has been done since that.

I am trying to get a feel for the problem as I have trouble getting independent repairers to fix faults like this and am worried the MB dealer will charge £££s. They charged £60 to glue a reversing sensor in place (a lot for a poor pensioner!).

Thanks for any advice,
M

just a quick idea, try lightly pushing the button, if you get movment then put it all the way down and the same going up, if the battery been off it might just need a reset!

Thanks for the idea but no movement at all I'm afraid. It's been working fine for the last 6 months since fitting the new battery. There's defitely power gowing to the switch as the switch-light dims when the driver's pad is used to try to operate the window. And then there's also the audible click.

Cheers,
M

The window may be stuck in the runners. Try getting someone to pull/push the window down whilst you operate the switch.

Hi
Does the switch-light dim when you try the drivers window ?

Yes it does dim when either switch is pressed.

I'll get the wife to operate the switch today while I try to push the window down.

Back later.

Thanks for all the help.

As television has said, the door card really needs to come off, the later window regulators aren´t as strong as the old ones and the cable may have jammed. Did you notice any strange noises from it the last time the window was raised? I would also take the door card off before you try forcing the window down, otherwise it could drop into the door!

Pete.

NO luck trying to force the glass while the button is pressed.

The only possible thing I can think of is that my dear of mother in law pulled frantically at the switch a few days ago thinking it was for adjusting the seat position - ugh.
May be irrelevant though.
