Hi everyone

I've got a '04 reg C180. My driver's side wing mirror has been knocked out by some idiot; although just the glass, the cover and plastic plate are intact and thankfully not a scratch on the outside.

I rang Mercedes dealership in Temple Fortune and asked how much it is to replace wing mirrror glass - £350!!!

I then got on various supplier websites and the price of OE wing mirror glass varies between £35 and £50. I rang Merc again thinking they misunderstood me and quoted for the whole shebang: glass, cover, mechanism etc. They again quoted £350 (without labour!). I asked how it's possible that their price is 10 times what I can get from other suppliers. The nice lady in a very patronising manner replied: "Sir, we supply only original Mercedes parts; are you sure it will be original Mercedes part when you buy it for £35?" Well, for £315 difference I don't really care as long as it reflects stuff, is able to move and defrost!

Am I missing a trick here? Is what I can get for £35 so much inferior to what Merc is charging £350 for?

Thank you!

Drivers side mirror will most likely be heated and auto dimming, check the cheaper ones are the same spec, I suspect they will be plain glass.

Welcome to the forums BTW :)

All glasses are heated, as Mark it is the dimming glass that cost so much
