Hello All

My 2003 C180K drivers seat has developed a really (really) irritating creaking. It comes from the backrest, and diminishes slightly after I have sat in it for a while, but it is always present.

Can I remove the back panel from the seat so that I can spray WD40 or some other lubricant into the interior of the seat?

Any good advice would be greatfully recieved - I am looking forward to a creak-free future!

Thanks

Gary

creaking seats

My 1999 CLK 320 had creaking seats caused by the leatherseat cushion rubbing against the plastic seat surround. I had part of the plastic cut away by the mercedees dealer and it improved for a while, but then returned. I solved the problem by taping a thinstrip of self adhesive PTFE tape along the imnside of the ABS plastic moulding.

Get an aerosol of PTFE,, and spray the joints in the back rest, and that should stop it, it will not hurt the plastics

Creaking Drivers Seat

Thanks Malcolm - but how do I get to the creaking area? At the moment my only option is to spray PTFE directly onto the cloth of the backrest - if I could remove the back panel of the backrest then I would be into the 'gubbins' of the seat and could achieve the desired result.

Regards

Hello all

I have now had the back cover off and have PTFE'd any component in the seat that even dared to look at me in a funny fashion. The creaking has reduced a little bit, but is still there.

The problem seems to be greatest where the seat cloth comes into contact with the plastic surrounding the seat belt stalk (and on the opposite side of the seat base.) Weight on the seat causes the seat cushion to push against this plastic 'shroud', which causes the sound.

I have raised the seat height to the maximum, which reduces the cloth/plastic contact a little, but fail to see what else I can do to improve the situation.

Anyone else come across this before?

Regards

Gary

yup - tried all the excellent suggestions I could find on this forum, each of which helped a bit. The ultimate cure however was (literally) staring me in the face.

Turn up the radio

The fact that so many people suffer from this problem boils down to crap design and short of re-engineering the seat or all the plastic that surrounds it, it seems a question of continued enthusiastic (!) application of PTFE which eventually might work its way into the offending area

Not sure if this would work with a cloth seat, due to the absorbtion, but I had this same problem on my Volvo leather seats rubbing on the plastic surround. I used a little silicone spray (some dash cleaners are silicone based). This solved the issue and only needed re-applying about once every 6 months.
