On my c200, there is a knob adjuster numbered 1 to 8. It is black, about an inch round and sits right next to the OVP.

On top of it it has the following:

025 545 50 28
09 9251 25
HFM MS

No one seems to know its purpose.

Can anyone help

Josh

BTW the car is ex japan

positions

apparently it alters ignition timing from what ive been told now.

Any idea on what the positions correspond to.

I Run on 95 RON octane, what position should it be set to for this fuel.

Just an interesting note, the engine doesnt ping on 91 RON which i thought was a bit odd

I had a 3 position one on my 124 300TE never made any difference where it was set to on mine.

It's a rheostat which replaces the fixed value R/16 resistor in North American spec cars.

The purpose is to adjust the timing in order to compensate for the wide variance in fuel quality in Europe and the rest of the world.

If you are not encountering pre-detonation (pinging) I would suggest leaving well enough alone because you know that the setting works. If the engine starts to ping than I would suggest adjusting the switch until the pinging is alleviated.
