hi there....

I currently own a Mercedes C200 96 model past year. She has an excellent heater the warms you up in seconds during winter...

However in the summer the cold aircond system is not working ... center vents give out warm air and side vents give out hot air... nothing remotely cool about the air con...... so every time we drive for a distance we feel like we are having heat stroke.. please help/ advice us how to make the aircond function as normal...please..

our panel does not have the EC key it has only 2 keys.

do help

First of all, if it doesnt have EC, then it hasnt got air con. This has nothing to do with your problem though. Under the bonnet, locate the two small upright silver valves next to the brake fluid resovoir. With the engine hot & running, blower on & set to cold, tap both valves with a spanner/scewdriver - not a hammer as you will probably break the mountings. Keep giving them a sharp whack & see if the blower gets cold. If so, the valves are faulty. They are called duo valves & are bought as one unit.

There is a thread in the DIY section on repairing these valves

equally they may not be stuck but low resistance. when one goes below a certain resistance (say 6ohms approx) the heater panel ceases earth switching of either side valve.

if this is the case then testing with a multimeter will prove it.
then the socket for the low ohms side can be removed from the plug and the other side then goes cold (if req'd to). 50% fix for free!

the other cheap way is to use a brake pipe clamp on the hose in summer.
