I have just bought a C200 elegance registered 05/1994 and was wondering about the specification of the vehicle. I have no book for the car, but did find a book relating to the car security system.

This book makes out that my car should have a Mercedes Remote type key (single button, flip type) is this the case? The car does have an alarm, but it is made by 'Sigma' and according to a post previously on this site some states that Merc contracted out early c classes to have alrams fitted.

Should my car have a seperate remote from the key or one built in as at the min all i have is a simple ordinary key!

Also are the sunroofs on these models tilt and slide or just slide?

Hope someone can help as i ahev searched everywhere for this information and had no luck!

i've a c220 from 1995 and the sunroof is tilt n slide (can tilt, and can slide)

in addition, i have two key FOBs which are flip keys, with a one button infrared on them, you aim the key fob at the rear view mirror to open/close the car (central locking)

cheers

Thanks for the replies.

I have figured out eh sunroof thanks.

Now trying to work out the central locking.
I noticed that looking at the pics of your car annyweb that you have a red and green light on your rear view mirror. Mine hasn't got any lights on the rear view mirror, so I am now thinking that mine should not have the flip type key thingy but a seperate remote! ah well:rolleyes:

Hi, I recently bought the same car / same year. Mine came with just two keys but I suspect there should be a remote. Did you find out anything more about it?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 1994 C200 on a M plate. I have been through all this with the dealership and if your car doesn't have lights under the rear view mirror it doesn't have central locking. This was not standard, apparently, until 'N' plates.

If it has a 'normal' key that centrally locks the car and there is a siren located under the bonnet, chances are that it is fitted with a Scorpion alarm that is missing it's 2 button remote.
1 for locking the car
2nd for activating the panic alarm.

Hello,
My M reg C280 has an MB approved alarm - Scorpion. This has a fob with buttons for keyless unlocking and locking. The car does not have lights under the rear view mirror but it does have remote central locking, which incidentally, automatically closes all the windows and the sunroof if these are left open when you leave the car. However, some time ago the system would not let me in when we were out one day and I had to have the AA out to reset the immobiliser/alarm system. Since then I've put the fob away somewhere safe as I no longer trust it. Always use the key now to unlock and lock the car. Maybe a previous owner of yours has done the same and forgotten to pass on the fobs when they sold the car.

As others have said you won't have the flip key for your early W202 but the standard key the same as the pic below

The factory fitted alarm will be a Scorpion. I still have the original MB manual for this alarm system and also a spare 2-button Scorpion fob (MB badged).

Also not sure if you know this already but when you are locking your car manually using the lock in the door, if you hold the key in the lock position and hold it there it will perform a full-closure function whereby all windows and the sunroof will close (if not closed already).

Let me know if you want a pic of the fob and manual I have.

Does your immobiliser not cut in after 30 seconds if not started then? mine does.
Also have you got a drivers door lock? (obviously) as mine has,nt.
Also mine has a single button remote and it is definitly a Scorpion.
I have not put this post up to disagree with everyone but just to demonstrate that there were many many different Scorpion alarm systems fitted to the vehicles dependant on month, year, model, and current insurance discounts available (at the time the vehicle was new)
But to answer the original post as far as i,m aware all W202s had remote central locking as standard and the scorpion alarm utilises the remote used to have remote locking doesnt mean you have to have the red, green leds as they are for the alarm.
As far as i,m aware the 202 never had a Sigma alarm fitted, but if you have not a fob how do you set the alarm.
Try going to the dealer to get another key and wait till he tells you the price if it is less than £20 its an ordinary one if its over £60 you know you should have a fob

Try this link for info on Scorpion alarms fitted to Mercs,
