Hi nkombafm

I think you will find it's probably 69 litres, like mine. This includes a 'reserve' that doesn't really exist. It merely means that when your fuel gauge reads empty, you've probably got somewhere between 1 and 2 gallons left in reserve.

Hi nkombafm

73.6L???

I usually fill up when the fuel gauge reads just above Empty and the yellow warning lamp has been on for the last 40 to 50 miles. I reset the trip odometer after filling and I use it as a check on the gauge. It reads around 350miles when I fill up but with the reserve the maximum theoretical range (series of short journeys) is around 400miles. On a long journey that figure will rise above 400miles.

I don't understand the reading you see on the pump unless you have an extra large tank. Other members will be able to advise.

If you have a standard tank then the pump you have been using is reading on the high side. This could become a Trading Standards issue and you should report your suspicion to the garage and to the TS office. I assume you pay per litre and therefore you are being overcharged by quite a bit. You'll find your local TS Office in your Yellow Pages. Most large towns have them. Their services cost nothing and you would be doing yourself and other customers of the garage a big favour. But you must identify what size fuel tank you have if this issue goes to litigation.

I thought the 62 included the 7 litre reserve and the "reserve" just indicated the amount when the light comes on - certainly fits with the 53 ish litres I get in if I fill up after the light comes on.

In which case 73.4 is even more shocking - did you check for a puddle under the car, or the pump resetting properly!

:)I think that is where I got in trouble did not check the pump. Any way I went back to the garage with what Philharve said yesterday and the matter has been settled out of court. Thanks

The did an 80l tank on the E (320 has as std) and mine has it, but I always thought the 202 was a 60l. I'm pretty sure my C220 was.
The 80l tank is great except that at some filling stations it exceeds their single fill limit so I've had the pump shut off before I'd filled the tank!

Hi jberks

My documentation states 69-litre with reserve. I usually refill when the gauge reads 'E' and I manage to squeeze in between 63 - 65 litres as indicated by the petrol pump. I conclude that 69-litre is the size of my fuel tank. However, I'm now wondering whether my tank is standard or a larger size?

I've never heard of the 'single fill limit' at some pumps. I assume this has nothing to do with rationing and is some safety feature to prevent overfilling of really big tanks?
