C200 gearbox

my gearbox has thrown its dummy out of it's pram again!

i parked the car last night, put it into 'P' and it went backwards!!!

put it into 'N'....still went backwards!!!!!

put it into 'D'....still went backwards!!!!!!!!!

no steep hills involved, just a flat supermarket carpark and no-one behind me.

Turned off the engine, tried to restart, and nothing.

Merc techie came out, managed to start it, and it went backwards.

This is my 2nd 'box, the 1st was changed under warranty bacause it changed gear violently, and when you came to a stop it lurched forward.

Did you park via reverse? If so sounds like a linkage has come adrift.

merc have repaired it!!!

they told me it was the starter relay that caused the problem...does that make sense??

I didn't think so....but not being an expert, i have to be open to what i've been told.

Maybe your car is a hybrid and the have not told you, I think that someone made a cock up when they fitted your gearbox, sinse when has the starter motor got anything to do with the gearbox, But I learn something new everyday.
