Stop moaning, get on ebay and get the workshop dispstick, they come with a printed list of where the oil reading should be for all engines. As mentioned make sure you get the dipstick for the engine oil and not transmission.

As mentioned they system is designed to measure the the oil warm. So let the car warm up, turn off, wait 5 mins (hence the message you get). Then dip your stick!

who's moaning? If you read the original post, you will see that I have driven the car and warmed it up. Etc etc. There are many dipsticks on ebay, from £10 t0 £130!! And they all seem to agree on the same length for the 2143(?)cc engine, 596-616mm. So I just stuck a length of carefully calibrated electrical cable down the 'ole and it's got oil on it, so I'll go with that.

ideally order the disptick online and the information will come with the dipstick - as mentioned in my earlier post.

Alternatively go to the dealer and ask them to check the level, they usually wont charge for this and ask then nicely and they will print off the WIS information for you which is VIN hence engine specific.

As well as the low oil-level warning, the car drives as though in limp mode- the accelerator seems to have no effect after about 1/3rd throttle, it won't rev above 3k and kickdown doesn't work. I don't suppose the two could be related?

Where are based, realslimshady (there’s no info on your profile page) if you let us know somebody should be able to direct you to an Indy who’ll have the kit to investigate without it costing you several limbs...

With any luck the problems
causing the ‘crawl’ mode may be minor and easily rectified...

Andover. My local garage are having a look today-they're usually pretty good. See what they have to say.

To make sure the oil level is correct, drain the oil and refill the correct amount, should then tell you if the sensor is working.

Hello and welcome

You can’t drain all the old oil easily so if you refill with what the book states then you’ll most likely overfill which is very bad

Agreed 100%.

Get the workshop tool (engine oil) they are about 15 pounds and includes the engine specific measurements to ensure the correct level.

actually car will tell you pretty accurately amount of oil w/o dipstick if you do the following:
1. turn off the engine for more than 10 min after its warm
2. turn the key to first position
3. press the reset button quickly 3 times.
4. you should see battery voltage displayed
5. Press UP arrow on s/wheel
6. turn Key to second position w/o statring engine
7. you should see Oil amount (metric) be displayed

thanks for that-unfortunately, doesn't work. Sensor is obviously firked. Along with the egr valve (performance issue) and the cooling system that keeps disappearing coolant. And the mot that expires in four weeks. Think it's the glue factory for it....

Jury is still out on keep/scrap debate. At the moment it's serving me well as l clear my garden and use it as a van, but only a month's mot left and also has an issue with coolant disappearing...(the egr valve is staying fixed for the moment) so we shall see.
