Hi Nick and welcome to the forum.

No kick down means that if you are driving along say at 40 mph and you floor the throttle it should change down and hold that gear up to the max speed for that gear, then go into the next gear.

If you push the throttle and nothing happens the most common fault is that the track on the fuel pump relay is open circuit

so is it just a case of changing the relay?

thanks nick

It cheaper to open it and bridge the gap with a piece of copper wire soldered over the break

The fault on the board affects most MBs with that fault, I would much rather that you opened it to check, just in case I am wrong, as I would not sleep if you bought something that you did not need.

Because it was having a negative effect on his car's performance, that's how :p

Pity theres a no swearing rule on here

It's one of my favourite Jockisms; How? = Why?

Example:
"Are you coming to drink 15 pints of Tennent's?"
"No."
"How?"
"Because I've spent all my money on heroin."
:D :p

I'd also go for a kickdown cable adjustment
