c200 or c220cdi?

Is a c220cdi auto w202 a better performer than my lethargic c200 petrol auto w202? I`ve seen a fresh looking c220cdi (x plate) sport estate that might replace my current c200 (s plate) saloon.

It depends a bit, it will be better on fuel economy and should be an easier drive. Take it for a test drive and see if you could get on with it.

How much better economy could i expect? Also is it true the w202 estates have rust prone tailgates? (the rest of w202`s are bad enough)

Depending upon how you drive it mid 40's is possible.

i have a 99 c220cdi estate classic auto and only get 30mpg

The 220CDi should be quite a lively performer. Take test drive and I'm sure you will be impressed by the new generation diesel, I was.
