c200 sport, first merc, cambelt help

hi everyone, just got my first merc, 1997 c2oo sport, great car with 129000 miles and history up to 109000 miles, ive read each service entry in book but cant find if and when cambelt was done last, can anyone tell me what the service interval for cambelt change, thanks rob:D

Aye, duplex chain driving them. Apparently they'll start to rattle when they need doing, so no letting fly and wrecking the top end like a belt would. As far as I understand it 150thou or more is about right for the chain to last, and like I said there should be some warning.

I asked exactly the same Q on this forum when I bought my E and couldn't find a cambelt change in the history.......:rolleyes:

hi, thanks for reply, no belt! it just gets better. is that big belt you see when you open bonnet just a drive belt, ( alternator - power steering etc ). thanks again, rob:)

Just keep changing your engine oil and filter on time, using good quality oil and your cam chain will last, and last, and last.

still worth changing the big ribbed belt every now and then.

they dont last forever.

if your belt is the same as mine (cdi)especially inspect for cracking on the ribby part
