No = a reply in the negative.
Know = to be aware of something.

Unfortunately I have NO knowledge of the C-class and as such don't KNOW anything about them.

There are plenty of people on here who do KNOW them though, I think the Cs of that era fare better than the Es.

PS. Have a listen to Queens of the Stone Age - No one knows! :D

Hi Stevie and welcome to the site.
I think you have a great motor there. Many say the 1993 E class was the last of the greats, personally I think it was the W202 (yours). At 76k its pretty much run it (just).

2000 was around the time that MB were mucking about with bodywork so check areas like the boot lock for rust. MB may fix it foc if it is rusty - some were some weren't. As Hibbo says, an E of that era (I had one) fare much worse than the C so don't be too concerned about horror stories - people tend, unreasonably, to lump then together.

Also check that the gearbox oil and filters have been changed, They may not have been, even with FMBSH as it wasn't considered necessary, but in reality it should have been done around 60k so have it done.

Other than that, it's pretty bullet proof. Not as sporty or 'feely' as a 3 series, but drive it for a few days and you'll fall in love.
I went test driving with a friend a few years ago. Took out a 330i and a 330d - fully loaded, then got back into my 4 year old C220 in the car park and just had no desire to change. They just have something.
Enjoy.

I agree with JBerks, the C200 is a good car with few major problems, however pull out the transmission dipstick (whilst the engine and transmission are hot) and check the colour of the oil. If its black or smells burnt - change the oil and filter. It should be red/neutral in colour. and 60,000 is about its limit. Todays models with the 722.9 Transmission are supposed to run for life on the same oil. But at 60,000 I would still change oil/filter and oil pan seal.

All mercs are duplex chain drive so no worries there.
I've still got my C220 (same car +200cc) and can't bear to part with it, so look forward to a LONG relationship with yours!
