Hi,

Hoping that you may be able to help.
My father has a Mercedes C200K, 2001 with less than 60,000 miles. He has just been told that the car needs a replacement camshaft adjuster, wiring harness and 02 sensors. This is due to the engine camshaft adjuster leaking oil into the wiring harness. He has been told that this is a product fault which Mercedes know about but have decided not to recall vehicles.
He has been quoted £1500 ++.
Can you advise on the best line of action to take?
Is this something which he should really go to a main dealer/service for or could he go to a non-franchised garage which specialises in Mercedes?

Thank you for your help.

I normally do that repair for around £800 (give or take)

A good independent can do it. No need to go to a dealer.

BTW its a very common problem.

Is this problem only on this model or does it apply to other models too?
