Hi,

I have used this forum before and had a good time getting help and feedback for my merc.

So i am need once more for an error that has come up this morning on my cars instrument cluster.

Can someone advise what this error means please and what i should do about it. Is the car driveable whilst i hunt around for a solution. It was ok this morning getting into work.

Cheers,

Probably just that the aux battery requires replacement as it's not up to the required voltage - You could (if you have a multimeter) check the voltage and that it is charging - if it's original it's at least 5 years old now

That also sounds plausible
Mercedes Benz Grangemouth will give you a good discount, call Neil 01324 686002 , often you can get remanufactured ones for c£90 too.

I would be interested in what the 'Voltage Converter' is they are referencing? never heard of one of these? is yours a late W204 or early W205?

I reckon it's an early w205. The part they describe as a voltage converter is what you need. The car calls it an aux battery, but it is actually a box with four big capacitors in it. It is located at the end of the passenger footwell, and if you are handy with the spanners you can replace it yourself. Plug and play, no diagnostic hook up required.

Ah so the fog is clearing, the Stop/Start battery in the boot charges the capacitor bank which in turn provides the SS function after the engine has been started by the main battery. So the Stop/Start function in the OP car should have failed? Some may see this as a benefit? :) Thanks UB for the head's up.

OP, Just be very careful handling these capacitors as they can discharge some very high voltages which can easily burn as well as shock you!

Not quite. The w204 you have has the aux battery in the boot. The w205 has no battery like that. The capacitor unit is fitted instead of the small battery in the w205.
