Common as muck, check the bottom coil of the rear springs, they snap!!!!

Cheap for the springs, has the lower arm been changed on the o/s, you have to fit the modified lower arm as well as the spring!

I haved just replaced both rear springs and now appear to have a knocking. Very interested in any info on what arms I need to replace on rear suspension. By the way rear springs are easy to replace on W203. No special tools needed, just a trolley jack to lower and raise arms. Took me no more than three hours to do. Exhaust gets in way a bit (near side) but does not make job impossible.

Thanks. Probably worth replacing 20 and 70 then.

Use an iron bar to lever the roll bar to see if there is any free play in the links,, the bar can make a knocking when the bush has worn through,, all of this fits with changing the springs

The bottom arms allow the springs to move causing them to hit against the arms, youl see clear marks on the springs if they have been hitting.

Television is right - had exactly the same fault in my 2002 coupe - replaced links and bushes and all now OK - not expensive - £150 all including work from local indie.
