Hi guys,

Wondering i anyone could help, i recently brought a 04 plate c220 cdi coupe and im very disipionted with the fuel consumption (getting 296miles for 58 liters of diesel). The car is used for short journeys, however i expect alot more. I sure their is something wrong with it.

I have taken it to merc and they did the following:

replace sensor P059 (dont know which one)
Greased linkage turbo 4059.

None of which have made a difference.

Can some one help ?

p059 and 4059 are just recalls, but correct me if im wrong but 58 ltr is around 12 gallons which works out at around 40/42 mpg considering your only doing short journeys thats ok

I work that out to be 12.75 gallons = 23 mpg's. That seems a bit low to me even using for short journeys

Blocked / old air filter?
Mass air sensor fault?
Thermostat fully open so car not warming up?
Auxilary heater booster faultly and running all the time burning fuel?
In extreme - possibly even fuel leak in the system?

Hello

Mine's the older W202 series model, same engine, slightly different tune, estate with 5 speed automatic.

At the moment I'm getting about 38 mpg (over 450 miles per tank), mostly fast motorway driving, auxilary heater booster turned off (well it's broken actaully!). At around 100,000 miles on the clock it probably has a few things impacting the economy:

Mass Air Sensor & Injectors nearing end of life
Thermostat has car running a little cold - closer to 60 degrees, probably should be nearer to 80 for max thermodynamic efficiency.

Best wishes

David

Hi, don't know whats wrong with your C220 CDI, but must be serious to only do that much. My C220 CDI manual, coupe, 2002 with 130,000 miles is regularly doing between 50 and 55 mpg, ie. about 700 miles per tankful
