MB Guildford are having trouble diagnosing the problems I'm having with my C220 CDi coupe (WDB 2037062A) . They've had it on STAR for 2 hours so far at £66 + VAT per hour and think that the inlet port shut off motor could be the problem at £106 + VAT; however, they say that the inlet manifold (which comes with the motor at £466 + VAT) may need replacing. On top of that they are quoting 5.5 hours of labour to change it amounting to £471 + VAT. To make things worse they cannot guarentee that this will cure the fault. Fuse 54 was constantly blowing but has now stopped but they don't know why!

Are these prices reasonable; the cost seems to be spiralling. Can these components be bought aftermarket or mor competitively than the prices quoted? I've e-mailed euromerc.co.uk and am awaiting a response; any other outlets worth trying?

Many thanks

Hi, see my other post, which details the problems so far. In summary, the car is showing a warning 'Coolant, Visit Workshop', the fan is going at full speed, Fuse 54 (7.5A) continually blows and the car has gone into 'limp home' mode. STAR has indicated that limp home is likely to be due to either the inlet port shut off motor or the inlet manifold itself.

The repair estimate is likely to be around £1000 so far! MB cannot confirm whether the coolant warning and fan problems are associated with these other faults despite 2 hours worth of diagnosis. I'm concerned that the repair cost is spiralling out of control and that they are diagnosing by replacing items.

Regards,

Nick

Hi Nick you got Malcolm & samm unit's full attention so I have little to add, I cant see it being anything to do with inlet port shut off motor or the inlet manifold itself.
I have had stuff running (brake hydraulic pump) even with the ignition switched off and it was a relay

I will try and put up some more info, but if MB have the car, why do not they follow standard procedure. Its dead simple when thing come to me with a blowing fuse,, I just disconnect things on that 12volt rail one by one until I come to the rail with the fault on it. As this fuse 54 rail is dead, just take everything off that line, replace the fuse, and refit the relays and components one by one until the fuse blows, its the most basic elementary electronics.

The car is going to run the whole time while doing this as everything on the f54 rail is doing nothing now anyway
