I have just been investigating my front suspension as I have a rattle, drop links was my immediate thought but on investigation it doesn't appear to have any - or an anti roll bar. The brackets for the top of the links are on the struts but with nothing fitted to them and no sign that anything ever has been.

Can anyone explain this? is there a phantom anti roll bar thief at large?

Put your VIN number into the search box and see what was there originally.

Smart + others :)
Someone’s removed it, all 203’s have a roll bar. Perhaps the inner mounting bolts had snapped.

Thanks. It must have been done a long time ago and its passed all its MOt's so I will leave it as it is, the ride is hard enough already.

Surely this can't be right? It has to have a detrimental effect on the road holding and handling at either speed or sharp cornering doesn't it? and at worst case provides an escape clause for the insurance Co in the event of an accident? I'm not an auto engineer but it sounds so wrong on so many levels to simply remove with impunity and keep a clear conscience knowing it's missing? What about the long term effects on other suspension components due to the missing part?

The rigidity of the suspension would suggest it doesn't need one, it certainly hasn't been there for many years. The ride is on the hard side but the handling is fine.

Removing the front anti-roll bar will tend to make the car understeer less/ oversteer more in certain conditions you may not notice the difference as ESP may be taking care of it.

As I rarely drive above 60 mph and don't believe in chucking my passengers about - it handles more than adequately for me.
