Hallo,

I previously posted a problem with a no show glow-plug indicator light (Car starts first time every time). Concensus was that glow plugs are only required at lower ambient temps, but that the indicator light should at least flicker on for a moment.

Options are that the indicator bulb in the dash is shot. I assume this is difficult to replace. Other option is that a fuse has blown. I've checked the fuse diagrams (front and back) and there does not seem to be one for the glow-plug circuit. Is there one ? In any case would the car start at all if the glow-plugs are completely inactive ?

Grateful for any advice, Kevin

It would probably start eventuallly but you would know you have a problem. Are you sure you have checked all your fuse boxes as there are a few of them. The problem is that the manual doesn't list which fuses are where, just that the list is inside the fuse boxes.:?

Thanks Blobcat. I'm going to check the car again for fuse boxes and diagrams again.

cdi heater plugs

HI

The car would definatley start imediatley even if all the heater plugs failed. In the CDI engine the heater plugs are only there to reduce startup emissions,

Thanks Piestore,

Any idea where I can get more technical info about the CDI engine ? I've put off buying the W202 Haynes Manual because it only goes up to W Reg and my car is X. However, I suppose it will cover everything I need to know.

Hi,
I have purchased the haynes manual, code number 3511.
No referance whatsoever to the CDi engine.
Hope this helps.
Don.

Several reasons, common fault is wiring to glow plugs from glow output stage faulty. the timer relay is shown below
http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GM=717.466&CT=F&cat=45H&SID=54&SGR=329&SGN=12

Though hard to trace, Possible loose contact, open circuit or short circuit to ground. The line connection between glow output stage and engine control unit, both signal line, ground and power supply.
fault code P1482 is glow plug output stage faulty.
the above is for cars with DAS,
Not very clear or easy but it is the best I have got.
