Hi!

Does anyone knows what is the oil capacity of the C 220 CDi W202 auto gearbox oil capacity?

Does it makes any diference using Mercedes' oil rather than other brand oil?

(1) From DRY;
type 722.42 gearbox is 6.6 litres
type 722.60 gearbox is 9.3 litres

Fluid change; 5.5 litres (Haynes).

(2) IMO no, unless you are a bit paranoid about packets and cans always bearing the MB logo and don't mind paying megabucks for the priviledge. (I expect a few brickbats for this!)
Haynes recommends Duckhams Autotrans III.

Cheers, Tom.

Hi

Use only the genuine oil MA001 989 212 03/10 fluid £8.07/litre + vat. Yours is the 722.6 box and if your torque converter has a drain plug it will take 7.4 litres to refill. Change the filter as well.
You will need to buy a dipstick as well.

Thanks!

Another thing, the guy that changed the oil and filter in last service only filled the gearbox with 4l. If the oil level is low is it possible that the gears wont change with the outdoor temp below 10ºC?

Hi again.

I'm a bit concerned with my gearbox because last week, after de car beeing stopped for 2 days the gearbox didn't work until several minutes of trying. A guy from Merc dealer told me that is normal with the auto Merc when the gbox is cold to have that problem and when that happens the gears would change at 3500 rpm. The fact is that I tried 3500, 4000 and nothing... They start changing only when the car decided to.

I bought this car from a used car dealer with 135000 km and when I took it to service they only have changed 4 l of oil.

I'm worried because the amount of oil that rested inside it could be "out of date" and due to that the gbox isn't working normally.

What is the procedure to change all the oil and which spare parts do I need.

Thanks in advance

To drain the oil you remove the drain plug, if you have a oil cooler take off one of the pipes and drain into a container. The toque converter.. there is no mention of draining this in service info, if there is a drain plug it will be under a cover at the front of gearbox near bell housing.when the cover is off you need to turn the engine over so that the torque con: plug is at the bottom

as mentioned earlier you will need the oil and a dipstick £15. there is a filter but I am not sure if it is external. I can check
I feel that running the car with low oil would certainly cause the gear changing problems. the oil could be burnt. The info he gave you about changing at 3500 is rubbish.

When you refil, the car needs running and in drive and left on idle for 5 mins

Does your car have a dipstick for the auto box or does it not have one?

If it has check your hand book for the procedure for checking the level.

Had a friend with a w202 C180 R Plate with no dipstick and the gear changes had a mind of the own until he got it checked and toped up.

Hi

Thank you Malcolm for your advises.

My car doesn't have any dipstick, but last week I went to the garage to check the level and it was on top.

One thing that I didn't find normal is that the level was checked with the engine running, is it like this?

One last thing, is this oil ref ok? A0019892103

Most automatics a checked with the engine running some you have to go through all the gears and check in the D position some are checked in the N position
